Composer Interface

The composer uses a two-column layout for easy content creation:

  • Media upload section (images/videos)
  • Additional options (hashtags, mentions, links)

Right Column (Settings & Actions)

  • Platform selector (choose accounts)
  • Schedule selector (when to publish)

Writing Content

Character Limits

Each platform has different character limits. Postle shows you a live counter for each selected platform and warns you if you exceed the limit.

PlatformCharacter LimitNotes
X280Most restrictive - write concisely
Pinterest500Short descriptions work best
Instagram2,200Caption limit for posts and reels
TikTok2,200Caption limit for videos
LinkedIn3,000Good for longer professional content
YouTube5,000Description limit for videos
Facebook63,206Practically unlimited
When posting to multiple platforms, write for the most restrictive platform (Twitter at 280 characters) to ensure your content fits everywhere.

Character Counter Visual States

The character counter changes color to help you:

  • Gray (0-80%): Safe zone - plenty of room
  • Amber (80-100%): Warning - approaching limit
  • Red (over 100%): Error - content too long for this platform
You cannot schedule a post if the content exceeds the character limit for any selected platform. Either shorten the content or deselect platforms with stricter limits.

Hashtags and Mentions

You can include hashtags (#) and mentions (@) directly in your content:

  • Hashtags: Use #hashtag anywhere in your text. They help categorize content and improve discoverability.
  • Mentions: Use @username to tag other users or brands. Platform-specific: Instagram and Facebook support mentions, Twitter auto-links them.
  • Character counting: Hashtags and mentions count toward your character limit on all platforms.

Emojis and Special Characters

All platforms support emojis and most special characters:

  • Use emojis to add personality and visual interest
  • Some emojis count as 2 characters on Twitter - the counter adjusts automatically
  • Line breaks are preserved on all platforms
  • Bullet points (•) and other symbols work on all platforms

Media Upload

Video Support Coming Soon

Video uploads are currently in development (Phase 2). Image posts are fully supported now.

Enhance your posts with images and videos. Postle handles the upload and provides previews before publishing.

Supported Image Formats

  • Formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP
  • Max size: 8MB per image
  • Recommended dimensions: 1080x1080 (square) or 1080x1350 (portrait) for best quality on all platforms
  • Multiple images: Upload up to 10 images for carousel posts (Instagram, Facebook)

Supported Video Formats

  • Formats: MP4, MOV, AVI
  • Max size: 500MB per video
  • Duration limits: Varies by platform (see table below)
  • Recommended: MP4 with H.264 codec for best compatibility
PlatformRecommended Aspect RatioMax DurationMax Size
Instagram9:16 (vertical) or 1:1 (square)90 seconds (Reels)500MB
TikTok9:16 (vertical)10 minutes500MB
YouTube9:16 (Shorts) or 16:9 (regular)60 seconds (Shorts)500MB
Facebook16:9 or 1:14 hours500MB
X16:9 or 1:12 min 20 sec500MB
LinkedIn16:9 or 1:130 minutes500MB
When uploading a video, Postle automatically detects the aspect ratio and duration, then shows warnings if the video doesn't meet requirements for any selected platform.

Image Optimization Tips

  • Compress before uploading: Use tools like TinyPNG or Squoosh to reduce file size without losing quality
  • Use high-quality images: Low-resolution images look blurry on high-DPI screens
  • Match platform ratios: Square (1:1) works everywhere, portrait (4:5) is best for Instagram feed
  • Add text overlays sparingly: Make sure text is readable on mobile

Platform-Specific Features

While Postle provides a unified interface, some platforms have unique features:

Hashtag Manager

Add hashtags outside of your main content. They'll be appended to the end of your post on platforms that support them.

Tip: Save frequently-used hashtag groups for easy reuse

Mentions

Tag other users or brands. On Instagram and Facebook, mentioned accounts receive notifications.

Tip: Mentioning relevant accounts can increase visibility

Link URL

Add a URL that will be included with your post. Facebook automatically generates a preview card.

Tip: Use UTM parameters to track click sources in analytics

Publishing Options

Schedule for Later

  1. Select "Schedule" mode in the schedule selector
  2. Pick a date from the calendar
  3. Choose a time (or use suggested optimal times)
  4. Click "Schedule Post" to add it to your calendar
The schedule selector shows suggested optimal posting times based on when your audience is most active. Look for the "Optimal" badge next to recommended times.

Post Now

Publish immediately to all selected platforms:

  1. Select "Post Now" mode in the schedule selector
  2. Click "Post Now" button
  3. Your post will be published within 1-2 minutes
"Post Now" cannot be undone. Once you click the button, the post will be published to all selected platforms. Double-check your content before posting!

Save as Draft

Save your work without scheduling or publishing:

  • Click "Save Draft" to manually save
  • Drafts auto-save every 30 seconds as you type
  • Access saved drafts from the Content Library
  • Drafts can be edited and scheduled later

Cross-Posting Considerations

When posting to multiple platforms simultaneously:

  • Character limits: Write for the most restrictive platform (Twitter at 280 characters)
  • Video formats: Vertical (9:16) works best for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
  • Hashtags: Different platforms have different hashtag cultures. 1-3 hashtags work universally.
  • Image dimensions: Square (1:1) or portrait (4:5) work well everywhere
For best results, consider creating platform-specific versions of your content rather than cross-posting identical content everywhere. This allows you to optimize for each platform's unique culture and best practices.
